Swim Ireland Level 1 Blended Coaching Course

There will be a Level 1 Blended Coaching course taking place at University of Limerick on Friday 8th, 9th and 16th March 2019.

Those wishing to part take will need to be Garda Vetted and have done a Safeguarding 1 workshop. The vetting form, parental consent form and a flow chart which explains the process are attached below.

The time constraints are tight so anyone participating would need to apply for the Garda Vetting immediately (instructions are on the form).

Level 1 Blended Assistant Swimming Coach

This course is designed for anyone who is interested in starting a career as a Swim Ireland Level 1 Assistant Swimming Coach or wants to assist a Swim Ireland level 2 Swimming Coach.

Successful completion of the course will qualify you to become a Swim Ireland Level 1 Assistant Swimming Coach which enables you to actively support a qualified Swimming Coach in the delivery of a pre-prepared session.

Prerequisites

You must be at least 15 years of age by the start of the course. Hold a valid Safeguarding certificate and have completed Swim Ireland vetting.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although we strongly recommend that you have current knowledge and some practical experience of assisting with swimming lessons.

Details

This is a Blended Learning programme which means that candidates’ complete part of the theory online. Candidates complete all e-learning elements prior to attending the face-to-face days.

Within 48 hours of booking we will send you an email with details of how to login to our Swim Training and Education Platform (STEP). You will have until 72 hours before the first face to face date to successfully complete your online learning.

This is a blended learning course consisting of:

Online Learning

Covering the theoretical elements of the course. You will be expected to complete the online learning assessment before attending the face to face course days. You will need access to a computer/tablet and Internet access to complete your online learning. The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning has taken place.

To achieve this qualification, you will be expected to complete the online theory test where you will be required to achieve 100% in the online test before you can proceed to the face-to-face course.

Face-to-Face

Delivered by an experienced Swim Ireland tutor during which you will put the theory that you have learnt into practice.

Cost : €10 (€5 after Munster rebate)

Qualifies you to fulfil the role of Timekeeper at all levels up to and including National Championships.

Level 2 Officials (Must have Level 1 Officials)

Date: Saturday 26th January 2019

Time: 12pm – 5.30pm

Cost : €25 (€12.50 after Munster rebate)

Qualifies you to fulfil the role of Turn judge and Stroke Judge at all levels up to and including National Championships.

I am writing to you on behalf of the Nominations Committee which has been appointed by the Board of Swim Ireland for the purposes of identifying and recommending a suitable candidate to serve as Chairperson of the Board of Directors. The Term of Office of the current Chairperson, Clare McGrath, expires at the conclusion of the Swim Ireland Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will be held on Saturday 13 April 2019.

The Nominations Committee which consists of Ger Fleming (Wexford SC, nominated by the Membership), Clare McGrath (outgoing Chairperson) and Mary O Connor (Independent, CEO of the Federation of Irish Sport) is now inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified club members who are interested in putting themselves forward for the role. Please find attached a Job Description which outlines the commitment levels and the skills and experience required to fulfil this important role.

Due to the high number of entries, we have had to make some minor changes to the session structure in order that as many of your clubs’ swimmers as possible can participate.

  • There are now 5 sessions in total – 1 Friday evening, 2 Saturday and 2 Sunday
  • Female 200 F/C has moved to Sunday afternoon in place of Female 200 F/Y which has moved to Saturday afternoon
  • Male 50 Br/S has moved to Saturday morning
  • Female 50 Br/s has moved to the start of Saturday afternoon.

The Sundays Well Masters will take place on Saturday, February 9th.  This year there are some major changes!  New events, online entries and the opportunity to be crowned ‘Champion Swimmer’.  The Champion Swimmer will be awarded to the person who has the fastest time by adding the times of the 4 50 meter events.  This will be awarded in each age group.  Details above.

Mallow Development 1 Gala 12-01-2019

Mallow Swans Swimming Club are looking forward to welcoming you to the Munster Development 1 Gala on Saturday

We are expecting large numbers for this Competition, the 1st in Munster in 2019.

Please read below and attached for some useful information for your Swimmers / Coaches & Parents.

Arriving by Car

Parking at the Pool Venue is limited to approx 50 Vehicles in Total.

There is parking also at the Dunnes Stores / Gate Cinema, Underground Parking nearby (2-3 minutes Walk).

MSSC would encourage Car Pooling to minimize difficulties finding convenient parking.

Arriving by Bus

If arriving by bus, please ensure you arrive early, as turning is difficult adjacent to the pool.

Warm-Up (Click here)

There will be very busy warm up sessions.

Full Warm up for Morning Session ONLY

Note 1: Mid-day warm up is limited to swimmers who have NOT swam in the morning. This is to allow a Break for ALL for minimum 30 minutes.

Morning Warm-UP 

20 minutes Total Boys (in first, at 9:00am)

20 Minutes Total Girls (W/U finishes at 9:40am)

Due to the numbers, the Warm up PER Swimmer, time is 10 minutes.

Note 2: It is the responsibility of each Coach / Team Manager, to adhere to this schedule, to ensure equal access for all swimmers / clubs.

Scratches 

Coaches will be issued with a Gala Check in for your swimmers.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could complete your scratch sheet and return ASAP. 

Late entries will not be allowed on the day. Please do not ask.

Note 3: A responsible person (Coach or Team Manager) should be named on the Scratch sheet.

Swim Ireland Level 1 Team Manager Course

There will be a Level 1 Team Manager course taking place at Dunmanway Swimming Pool on Wednesday 16th January 2019 from 6pm – 9pm.

  • This course is for volunteers who wish to act as team manager for their club at competitions, club outings and away trips (both home and abroad).
  • You must be at least 20 years of age
  • You can attend the course without Vetting NVB/ Access NI or a valid Safeguarding certificate however the qualification will not be valid until they are completed.  If you wish to act in the role of Team Manager these are a requirement.
  • Course costs €25 per participant.
